1st Day of Class

Today was the first day of school. A small group of us met up to go to breakfast together at the cafeteria. They were serving small egg omelets (about an inch in diameter), squid or octopus in a spicy red sauce, kimchi, a tofu kelp soup, and rice. I was not very adventurous and stuck to the rice, eggs, and had a little kimchi-what a way to start the day! Our whole group met at 10:45 because we had class at 11. However, we all thought it was in a different room so we walked into a class, found out it was an English class, called Jihye (program coordinator), and then walked back to English Town (where the dorms are and also a discussion room where most of our classes will be held). Today's class was basic Korean reading, but we learned/practiced the characters and sounds of the letters. Jihye cut class short today since it was the first day and we went to the Bio Tech Dorm for lunch (there is not a cafeteria in English Town dorms). Lunch was fish, squid, kimchi, soup, rice, and clementines. I stuck to the soup, rice and clementines. A small group of us went to get 'hu ddeok', which is kind of like a donut-fried dough, but inside it is honey, cinnamon, and nuts. It was sooo tasty and it was very cheap! It was 500 won which is aaaabout 50 cents, but actually a little less.

Now we have a short break until our Korean Movie class which starts at 4. Normally it is earlier, but I think because today is the first day, this professor is going to cut it short as well.

Breakfast! (lunch wasn't worthy of a picture)

Left to right: me, Seung Bae, Ben, and Tim (who never seems to look directly into a camera. Ever.) We are enjoying hu ddeok!
